Daniel L. Meltzer, MD, MPH, FACEP

Chief Medical Officer

As chief medical officer, Dr. Daniel Meltzer provides strategic and clinical leadership to support the Healthwise mission of helping people make better health decisions.

Dan was developing a deep understanding of how to build healthcare teams and systems around what matters most to patients a decade before organizations began to focus on physician engagement and improving the patient experience. Dan works with our internal teams, clients, and partners to develop strategies to create and maintain a patient-centered system and work to advance metrics in the areas of patient education, experience, and quality.

Dan has 30 years of medical experience, with extensive knowledge in improving healthcare for patients, broad expertise in digital health, and outstanding internal leadership. He was most recently chief medical officer at Blue Cross of Idaho. He previously served as chief and chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Kaiser Permanente, San Diego. He is clinical faculty at the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine.

He completed the prestigious Certified Patient Safety Officer Executive Development Program at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and is a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.

Dan holds a B.A. in biology from Brown University, an M.P.H. in health services administration from San Diego State University Graduate School of Public Health, and an M.D. from Boston University School of Medicine. He served his residency in emergency medicine at the University of California, San Diego.
