Our medical review process

The Healthwise^® medical review process is led by Chief Medical Officer Martin J. Gabica, MD, a board-certified family medicine physician and cofounder of the Idaho Wellness Center. As CMO for Healthwise, Dr. Gabica applies his long-term leadership in shared decision making to ensure that all Healthwise products help our clients support strong patient-doctor relationships.

Dr. Gabica is joined in the review process by board-certified associate medical directors. Together, they help plan, update, and conduct initial and final reviews of Healthwise^® publications, products, and solutions—all of which are created by expert Healthwise writers.

Healthwise^® content is also rigorously reviewed by the members of our medical review board. Members of the Medical Review Board are nationally recognized specialists from throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. Their credentials include board certification, academic appointments at the nation's leading medical schools, active involvement in research, and publication in peer-reviewed journals and medical textbooks. But just as important, these specialists share the Healthwise commitment to helping consumers make better decisions about their health.

Healthwise verifies that the Medical Review Board members have current licenses, registrations, and certifications with state or national agencies. We also verify with bodies that certify in specialty areas, if appropriate. The reviewers must be in good standing with these organizations during the time they review Healthwise content. We check this standing at least every 3 years. In addition, reviewers agree to notify Healthwise immediately if the status of their licenses, registrations, or certifications changes.

It is through our work with the Medical Review Board that we are able to provide health content that is reliable, medically accurate, and up to date. Only Healthwise develops its content with such a strong commitment to evidence-based medicine, behaviorally sound patient motivation techniques, and plain language.
