A. Healthwise is a nonprofit organization that's been helping people make better health decisions since 1975.
We publish online content, printed self-care guides, patient instructions, and more.
Q. How can I find Healthwise information?
A. To find Healthwise information on the Web, check your hospital and health plan Web sites or health portals
like WebMD, AOL, or MSN. Look for the Healthwise logo to make sure it's from Healthwise. Click here
to search now.
Q. Who owns Healthwise?
A. Healthwise is a nonprofit organization so we do not have owners or shareholders. Our board of directors
lead Healthwise. The board consists of nine people. Two have positions at Healthwise. The others receive no
compensation from Healthwise and serve only from their commitment to our mission.
Q. Who pays for creation of the Healthwise content?
A. You can trust that Healthwise information is commercially unbiased. The books we sell and the license
fees we collect from our Web clients pay the salaries of the writers, editors, librarians, medical directors,
media makers, programmers, and other employees of Healthwise. We also receive occasional grants for special
projects or to write information for special populations.
Q. How often is Healthwise Web content updated?
A. Healthwise follows a rigorous update process. Health topics affected by significantly breaking news are
updated before the next quarterly update. We also annually update those topics with ongoing research and
rapidly changing treatments, like diabetes or HIV. Topics that change less frequently, such as bunions,
are reviewed every two years.
Q. Why isn't Healthwise information available at this Web site?
A. We license our content to hundreds
of hospitals, clinics, health plans, and Web portals. We believe that our mission is best met by helping
these organizations respond to the information needs of their patients, members, and users.
