Since 1975 I’ve led the nonprofit Healthwise in a nationwide effort to reinvent U.S. health care around the needs and resources of the patient. We have worked tirelessly to help clinicians, health systems, and payers to make their operations more patient-centered. Our evidence-based decision support information and tools have been turned to over 1.8 billion times. And while Healthwise has clearly made a difference in helping people make better health decisions, it has not been enough.
Molly Mettler, our former SVP of Mission, reflects on her 31 years at Healthwise and the road ahead in health care.
In 1976, to celebrate our country’s bicentennial and when Healthwise was just in toddlerhood, our Founder Don Kemper wrote the Declaration of Health Independence. Now 40 years later, he revises it as he reflects on how we can continue to improve the health care system and well-being for all.
